* vs England ( 653-4 decl ) at Lord's, 1990: India

four batsmen - Khan Mohammed Ibrahim (85), Rusi
Modi (63) and captain Lala Amarnath (62) scoring
fifties. Hemu Adhikari then played a magnificent
unbeaten innings of 114. It was his only ton in
Test cricket. However, the Indians failed to reduce
the run-deficit to less than 150, and were asked to
follow-on as per the then rules. India made 220-6
in the second innings and saved the match .
* vs West Indies (604 -6 decl) at Mumbai , 1974-75:
The first-ever Test to be played at Mumbai's
Wankhede Stadium saw the visitors posting a mammoth
604-6 declared .India, going in 35 minutes before
lunch on the third day, batted into the fifth day
and replied with 406, their highest score of the
series and one which enabled them to save the
follow-on. Eknath Solkar scored a dogged but
crucial 102, his only Test century. Sunil Gavaskar
scored a delightful 86, playing superb shots
against Andy Roberts. His brother-in-law Gundappa
Viswanath batted like a master for 95 and Anshuman
Gaekwad scored a half - century. However, India
lost the six - day Test by 201 runs. |
